Bihar Gambling Bill Targets Online Betting Apps and Digital Wallets

Home » Bihar Gambling Bill Targets Online Betting Apps and Digital Wallets

Bihar’s assembly passed the Bihar Gambling (Prohibition) Bill, 2026 on July 21, 2026, adding explicit coverage for online, electronic, computer and mobile-app gambling. Hindustan Times reported that the bill also targets publishing, broadcasting and advertising gambling-related content.

For rummy, fantasy sports and cricket-gaming users, the important point is the digital-account language. The bill is not only aimed at physical gambling houses. It also looks at app access, promotion, wallet use and people who provide bank or digital accounts for gambling flows.

What changed in Bihar

According to the HT report, first-time offenders may face one to three years in jail and a fine of Rs 50,000 to Rs 5 lakh. Repeat offences may carry up to seven years in jail and a fine from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. India Today also reported the bill as a tougher state move against online betting and gambling.

The bill would replace the old Public Gambling Act, 1867 framework in Bihar. HT quoted Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary as saying the Union home ministry had asked states and Union territories to move beyond the 1867 law and bring current legislation for public gambling.

Why it matters for players

Search results for “rummy app”, “fantasy cricket app” or “betting app Bihar” can mix very different products. A free sports community, esports event or social game is not the same risk as a deposit-led betting link. A private APK, wallet transfer or agent-led signup can put a user much closer to the conduct described in the Bihar bill.

  • Do not lend bank accounts, wallet IDs or payment handles for gambling transactions.
  • Be careful with app links that move users from cricket content into private deposits.
  • Do not treat an old rummy or fantasy review as current legal advice.
  • Keep records if an app blocks withdrawals or asks for a new deposit to release funds.

How brands may respond

Legitimate gaming brands are likely to keep moving toward current-status notices, free-to-play products, esports, social gaming and clearer state-level access language. The riskier side of the market may keep using mirror domains, local agents and wallet routing to look less visible.

That split matters for affiliate and comparison pages too. Pages that still push cash contests, guaranteed returns, instant betting profits or state-blind APK access are increasingly out of step with both national online gaming rules and newer state enforcement language.

What users are searching next

The likely search terms now include “Bihar online betting ban”, “Bihar Gambling Prohibition Bill 2026”, “betting app Bihar jail fine” and “is rummy legal in Bihar”. The useful answer is a current compliance check, not a recycled deposit offer.
